Parables of Nature is a beautiful collection of stories with outdoor and science related topics. The stories are not merely factual but are indeed parables – stories intended to be thought provoking with themes or higher point to be brought out. In this way, natural law and moral law are woven throughout to inspire the reader.
Typically this book is assigned for younger students, early elementary. That is when Charlotte used the book. In my home learning experience, this proved to be too much to tackle. Some of the stories are very long. Some have fairly complex wording and dialogue. Some were just too much deep thought that bounced off the student. It became drudgery which my children did not enjoy.
I did not want to give up on the book, so I decided to postpone some of the readings. Why not spread its intriguing thoughts over a longer course…. spread the goodness out? Some of the concepts really are better appreciated and related to with some years’ experience.
So instead of pushing through and completing Parables of Nature on schedule, I decided to break the book up to travel with them throughout their home learning journey. My goal was to spread the richness of the book out over the years, avoiding a choking sensation of too much at once. Some of the stories which are more easily handled at an early age are assigned in early elementary. There is a group of stories for the upper and middle school ages. And then some of the chapters are for the highschool days.
The book Parables of Nature is not included with this Schedule. You might find a reclaimed copy in the Book Rescue Book Store here at Real Living Life.
