Book Review: Jayber Crow

Jayber Crow by Wendell Berry
Book review by A. age 17

Jayber Crow is a book about the life of a boy that grew up in a small town near a river. It tells many stories about the town and the people that lived there. Some of the stories in the book are very touching. Although it seems as though Jayber Crow doesn’t know where he’s going or what will happen next there’s always a sense of peace about Jayber’s character that is a little unexplainable. His character is enjoyable to read about because he is a very easy going person. The town is mostly made up of old fashioned farmers and landowners who always have funny stories told about themselves or their families. The book first tells us about Jayber’s family and his adventures as he grows older. Wendell Berry has a very poetic way of writing and can make a story more intense or calming by just the way he writes. The book gives you a feeling of nostalgia. Even though Jayber Crow isn’t real, Wendell Berry can make it seem like you knew him.
