Homeschooling coaching is an intentional partnering. It pairs those who have walked the homeschool journey with those who are on the path and those who are just starting down the path. A homeschool coach has experienced all the ups and downs of homeschooling. They have weathered the storms as well as basked in the sunshine. This experience has turned into jewels of wisdom that are priceless. These warriors have tried the curriculum, they have navigated the toddlers, they have found a way to teach the children who love to run and jump, they have instilled habits, character, and spirituality into their children. They are here to pass their treasures on to you. They can help with the nitty gritty of curriculum, books, and schedules as well as the challenges of temper tantrums, exhaustion, and feeling inadequate.
The conception for Homeschool Coaching came from coaching classes and books on coaching that I was reading. At the same time as taking these classes, I was also having encounters with children who were not homeschooled and in a far different place. This reminded me of not only the beauty of homeschooling, but the very necessary purpose it serves for children, for families, for our society, and for our nation. After these encounters, I was never so proud of what the homeschool community has done and continues to do for children.
As I reflected on this, I remembered back to the days when I began homeschooling. So many questions, so much insecurity, so much doubt, so much anxiety. Back when I started homeschooling there weren’t so many choices and activities. I would be overwhelmed before I started if I were to begin now. Yet homeschooling with no backdrop was overwhelming in its own way. It was a free-fall feeling. No matter where you began, or where you are now, homeschoolers need the tried and true wisdom and experience of veteran homeschoolers. I would have killed for someone to be there to answer my questions, calm my fears, and help me sort through what it was I was trying to accomplish and how in the world to do it.
That is what Homeschool Coaches are here to do! There is so much beauty in homeschooling. It is my passion to help homeschoolers carry on and not give up – for in doing so there is great reward.
