This is what my 13 year old is doing right now. There are Together Time subjects are done with the entire family which take about 2 additional hours. And the ‘real life’ part of this, typically we get one hour of Together Time done, the second part, is hit and miss- often more miss.
He is not completely turned loose with this. He does a few things, checks in, does some more…
I’d like to add a disclaimer. This is a full schedule. A full schedule can only be done in the most uneventful of times in a homeschool. If you are going through any type of change, move, upheaval, crisis – any of that good or bad – do not attempt this whole load. And don’t feel guilty for not doing it. Someday I’ll post on what our schedule looked like during our change time(s). In short, if you are in that season of life, pick a couple good books and some math and that can be it. And that is fine for that season of life.

Some explanations:
We go down the list- top to bottom. Excluding chores- some are morning right away, some get mixed into the day. If there are places to go in the car and/or sitting some place, then we pick and choose which books/subjects are easiest/lightest to take and skip around the list as needed to get what we can get done at home and take the others.
The list always gets checked off by mom. All must be done before video games are allowed on the weekend.
REC and MEM = recitation and memory
NARRATION = sheet is referring to the narration sheet of written and alternative type narrations that we do in addition to the standard, straight-forward oral. I talk about them in this post.
COMPUTER = you tube type things that he can watch.
